MISION STATEMENT

Since 2008, Heritage Film Project has produced documentary films that matter—films that tell relevant stories, regardless of commercial appeal.
 
Our films are distributed openly and not for financial gain. They contain no hidden advertising, sponsorships, or product placements. Nevertheless, we continue to build an important catalog of documentaries dedicated to the arts and culture. What is our secret? The answer is simple: passion and the generosity of institutions and individuals like you.
 
To sustain this unique model, we created the Documentary Film Fund—the nonprofit arm of Heritage Film Project. Guided by a dedicated group of visionaries, the DFF receives annual contributions from viewers and philanthropists who believe in the power of storytelling. This financial support enables the Heritage Film Project to work on what we believe in—documentary films that might never be made otherwise, yet have a diverse and consistent audience eager to engage.
 
How do we reach that audience? Again, the answer is simple: we prioritize service over profit. Our films are freely distributed to PBS affiliates, community networks, and public and academic libraries. They are also incorporated into academic syllabi, used as resources for docents and guides in cultural centers and museums, and made available to stream directly from our website.
 
Does this model work? Absolutely. Our viewership numbers are in the hundreds of thousands and are continually expanding. We remain proudly independent—free from affiliations or political agendas—driven only by our commitment to sharing stories that inspire, challenge, and resonate.
 
But we are not just storytellers—we are listeners. Over the years, we have collaborated with institutions like the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the University of Virginia, and countless other organizations and individuals who share our vision.
